Rowan Groenewald is a Senior Counsel, Legal Affairs at Sagard and joined the firm in 2022. Rowan is responsible for the oversight and management of legal matters relating to Sagard’s activities and operations including fund formation, fundraising, investments, and asset management. Rowan is based in Toronto, Canada.
Prior to joining Sagard, Rowan was a Director, Legal Affairs (Private Alternative Investments) at Fiera Capital. At Fiera, Rowan provided legal services to Fiera’s private markets investment platforms in real estate, private debt, infrastructure, agriculture, and private equity. Prior to joining Fiera, Rowan summered, articled, and practiced as an associate in the business law group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, advising public and private companies on a variety of corporate and securities matters including mergers and acquisitions, go-public transactions, public offerings, private placements, private equity investments, and reorganizations.
Rowan holds a J.D. from the University of Windsor, an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies from Queen’s University, and is called to the Ontario bar. Rowan received the Law Society of Upper Canada & Osgoode Society Award of Excellence in 2016 and was a member of the Queen’s Varsity Development Rowing Team.
